There reigns a figure of quiet authority here at Rogers Neighborhood Farm and undeniable grace and class: Lady Salix, affectionately known as Lady.
Lady is not just any alpaca; she is the undisputed matriarch of the farm, with a demeanor that commands respect from both humans and her fellow alpacas.
She exudes an air of seriousness and has no time for games with goats or chickens as others would. She likes to be watered down on a hot day, but is utterly disgusted with water going in wild directions.
One thing she is not very classy about, is eating treats. She is a very eager eater. She LOVES grain and she will spit on any others trying butt in on her snack time.
In addition to her role as the farm's matriarch, Lady Salix is also a devoted mother.
She has brought three beautiful female crias into the world since being at Rogers Neighborhood Farm: Petunia (passed away in 2021), Honeysuckle (affectionately called Honey) and Apple Blossom (lovingly known as Apple).
She is an outstanding mother, which makes it difficult to do anything with her babies. She makes it known they are hers and hers alone.
Over the years, her fiber has been carefully sheared and transformed into a variety of exquisite products, depending on the quality of the fiber for that year. It has been spun into yarn on her strongest years, but there is always a use for it no matter what. We have also had some goods knitted from her fiber/yarn, like hats and finger-less gloves, that anyone would be so lucky to wear. Lady's fiber has been used to create practical items like dryer balls and felted soaps, adding a touch of luxury to everyday chores.
As you stand in Lady's presence, you can't help but be struck by the quiet strength and class that she brings to Rogers Neighborhood Farm, and otherwise rowdy and random place.
