FAQ
-
Where does my yarn come from? The alpaca fibers come from our family farm. Each skein of yarn will list which animal it comes from. All complimentary fibers (fibers mixed in to improve the quality of your yarn) come from a local fiber mill.
-
Why are other fibers added to the alpaca wool when creating yarn?Different fibers are added when creating yarn to enhance the quality and appearance of the yarn. For example: Bamboo adds softness and shine. Merino adds strength and durability.
-
What gives my yarn its color?Natural yarn contains no added dyes so it appears in its most pure color. Natural alpaca fibers can range from white to black with a full range of brown and gray tones in between. At the fiber mill we utilize for processing, the merino wool is dyed. It can be blended in with the alpaca fibers to change the tone of the yarn. All colored yarn provided by our farm will be either in the natural form or dyed in natural tones through merino blending. When colored through blending with merino wool, no bleeding or color transfer on hands or other fabrics occurs. Much of our stock we keep in the natural (dye-free) form which allows our customers to creatively dye or alter the color of their yarn as they desire.

Why alpaca manure?Alpaca poo is considered a rich soil conditioner. It improves the quality of soil and its ability to retain water. It's rich in nitrogen, potassium, phosphoric acid and potash. It contains the highest ratio of those compared to other manure fertilizers. (Its N-P-K is 1.7-0.69-1.2) Its not hot (will not fry your plants). It can be used as is (sprinkled on the top of gardens or plants) or used to make a tea, which is our recommendation as it will last much longer and will benefit your plants or gardens faster. It's light weight and best of all and due to the alpacas low protein diet... it is nearly odorless.
-
What is alpaca "tea"?"Alpaca "tea" is made by soaking alpaca poo in water to create a "tea" for watering your plants or garden. It is a great way to have your alpaca fertilizer last longer and to ensure your plants reap the maximum benefits of the fertilizer. Mix 1 cup of alpaca beans in 1 gallon of water. Stir the mixture, and let it sit in the sun for 24-48hrs. Then your “tea” is ready for use. Strain out beans and repeat up to three times before discarding the alpaca beans. Alpaca tea is excellent for gardens, houseplants, and flowers. Make sure that you thoroughly wash any produce watered with alpaca tea before consuming.
